Instruction
All students can benefit from some instruction in library research methods, whether they are freshmen writing their first college paper or graduate students developing their dissertation proposals. Information technology and library resources change almost daily, and the strategies that worked a few years ago may not be sufficient today.
ASL staff can offer instruction in several ways:
- We can come to your classroom and either use powerpoint or live sessions to demonstrate research techniques specific to the paper topics you are assigning
- We can have the class come to the library as a whole or in smaller groups (ASL can accommodate about 20 students in a class) for a low-tech hands on introduction to the resources available
- We can develop a web page for your class with links to online resources and tips on good research strategies
- We are always available to talk one on one with students as they work on their papers
A combination of these approaches can produce high-quality papers and students who will approach future research assignments with more confidence.
