- Almanac of Higher
Education, 1996 to date. Produced by the National Education Association
(NEA) this pdf publication offers detailed reports on the status of college
and university faculty and staff in the United States. Includes statistics
on salaries, tenure, benefits, etc.
- Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Statistics.
A database created by the University of Virginia, compiling statistical
information on ARL libraries collected in the period 1963-1999. This database
can be searched by institution in combination with any of 48 variables covering
topics such as holdings, circulation. interlibrary loan, reference, expenditure,
staff and degree programs offered by the parent institution.

Opportunities Online (IPEDS). A basic directory produced by the
National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) to over 9000 institutions
of higher learning within the United States. Searchable by region, enrollment,
type of institution and programs, this site gives basic address information,
enrollment, tuition and other expenses as well asWeb site links.
- is an extensive collection of full-text college
catalogs from two year, four year, and professional schools. This resource
can be used as a directory by means of a "criteria search" option that allows
the user to search for institutions by affiliation, enrollment, degree level,
major, state, or tuition.
- Encyclopedia of Education Statistics. This National
Center for Education Statistics (NCES) interface searches the Digest of Education
Statistics (1996), The condition of Education (1997-1998), Projections of
Education Statistics (to 2007 and to 2008), Youth Indicators (1996). Databases
can be searched individually or collectively. The Digest is the best single
source for education statistics available.
- Educational Resources
Information Center (ERIC), 1966-Present, is a comprehensive database
of literature in education. An excellent source. Full article citations are
given here, along with abstracts of most articles. Be aware that ERIC indexes
both published journal articles and something called "ERIC documents," which
are unpublished, but are reproduced in a microfiche form held by Mugar Memorial
Library.
- ETS/ERIC Test File is a searchable database maintained
by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) containing abstracts of approximately
10,000 mental measurements. The full text of many of these tests is available
in microform at many academic libraries as the ETS Test Collection. (The Educational
Resources Library (ERL) at Boston University, owns a part of this set, and
will be obtaining the full set in the near future). This Web site also includes
a Test Review Locator
that indexes test reviews in sources such as the Mental Measurements Yearbook,
Tests in Print, and Test Critiques. This resource has the
unique value of serving as a comprehensive index to all editions of the
Mental Measurements Yearbook.
