Boston University International Programs recently launched Boston University Worldwide, a semi-annual newsletter focusing on the many ways in which BU faculty, students and staff participate in the academic life of a truly global campus.

New Programs!
Boston University International Programs is pleased to announce the following new opportunities for students.
Australia
Summer Travel Writing in Australia
New for Summer 2008, this six-week program offers students the opportunity to study and to produce travel writing in both the creative and the professional forms of the genre. The program is structured around a twelve-day guided research trip where students travel to small-town Australia from the ocean to the outback. This trip focuses on the Australian small town seen through the lens of its people, culture, society, history, landscape, geography, politics, tourism, and literature. While on the road, students will read and write as they travel and will gather a research portfolio for articles, essays and creative pieces.
Sydney Engineering Program
New for Fall 2008, students in the Sydney Engineering Program will enroll directly in the University of Sydney, a large, comprehensive university in the center of Sydney, Australia. Sydney Uni, as it is known, is one of Australia’s most prestigious institutions of higher learning. Students enrolled in this program will typically choose three technical courses from a list approved by the College of Engineering at BU. In addition, students will enroll in one course on Australian culture and society. Students in the Sydney Engineering Program live with other BU program participants in Unilodge or other comparable, fully furnished student housing. Students have full access to the facilities and services of the University of Sydney.
Ireland
Dublin Engineering Program
New for Fall 2008, students in the Dublin Engineering Program will enroll directly in Dublin City University, a modern and fast-growing university just north of the city center of Dublin, Ireland. Students enrolled in this program will choose three engineering courses from a list approved by the College of Engineering at BU, and one elective course offered by BU’s Dublin Internship Program (The Arts in Ireland, Mass Media in Ireland or Modern Irish Literature). Students are housed in double bedrooms in suite-style accommodations on the Dublin City University Campus. Each bedroom is equipped with Internet access and its own bathroom. Students have full access to the facilities and services of Dublin City University.
Morocco
Rabat Language and Liberal Arts Program
Beginning in Spring 2009, students will have the opportunity to study Arabic language and Islamic and North African culture in Rabat, the cosmopolitan, capital city of Morocco. In this program students will study Arabic language and, through coursework, homestays, and excursions, examine the history, politics, and religion of Morocco and this ever-changing region of the world. Students will earn 16 credits upon completion of the program. The host institution is the Center for Cross Cultural Learning (CCCL), is a private cultural institution founded and directed by Moroccan academics with many years of experience in cross-cultural education.
Shanghai
Summer Shanghai Intensive Chinese Language Program
This is the summer to be in China!
New for Summer 2008, this intensive eight-week program at Shanghai’s Fudan University offers Chinese-language study at the first and second year-levels and provides a comprehensive introduction to China through study of its spoken and written language. The core curriculum centers on approximately 23 hours a week of language instruction, emphasizing grammar, oral comprehension, and speaking. The curriculum is augmented by a rich mixture of extracurricular activities and field trips.
Spain
Madrid Film Studies and Documentary Video Production Program
New for Fall 2008, this special Madrid program combines advanced Spanish study with a unique opportunity to explore Spanish culture through the study of film and television. It also offers students a rare chance to investigate some aspect of Spanish culture through the production of a documentary. This class will be led by an accomplished Spanish documentary filmmaker and will entail in-depth observation and immersion into the culture.
