Shanghai The Boston University Shanghai Programs offer a semester of study and internship experience, in the vibrant and booming metropolis of Shanghai, to students at beginning and advanced levels of Chinese language study. Hosted at Fudan University, and working in collaboration with Fudan’s Department of Chinese Language and Literature, the Shanghai Programs offer two different experiences for students. Students with at least two years of Chinese are invited to consider the Shanghai Internship Program, combining a professional work experience with language and culture coursework. Beginning students of the Chinese language and East Asian studies are invited to participate in the Chinese Language and Culture Program. Upon successful completion of the semester students earn 16 Boston University credits. One of China’s leading universities, Fudan University was founded in 1905. Fudan now has an enrollment of 25,000 full-time degree candidates and the second-largest foreign student population in China: some 1,650 students from around the world. Fudan boasts a qualified faculty of over 2,300 full-time professors and researchers in 17 schools. For more information on Fudan University visit www.fudan.edu.cn/englishnew. Students with a proven fluency in Spanish may opt to study K’iche Mayan. For the remaining 12 weeks of the semester students will live, study and work at the San Bartolo field camp and participate alongside the world’s foremost authorities in the ongoing investigation of this stunning Preclassic discovery. Recent investigations in the San Bartolo region of northern Guatemala have substantiated the view of Preclassic as the dynamic period when all aspects of later Maya civilization, including urbanization, hieroglyphic writing, and monumental architecture, were developed and refined. Students in this program will work at the cutting edge of Maya archaeology. Upon successful completion of the program students will receive 16 Boston University credits. The Guatemala Archeology Program will be offered in the spring semester of even numbered years only.
