Visa Requirements for the United Kingdom

The United Kingdom has instituted new immigration policies which will have changed the preparation that London Internship Program students need to undertake for study in the UK.

Student Visa Requirement
The change with the greatest impact on students is the new rule requiring a visa for all students who plan either to:

- Spend more than six months in the UK
- Seek employment in the UK, including unpaid internships undertaken
as part of an academic program.

The second point means that all students participating in the London Internship Program must apply for a student visa.

Visa Information
All students who have been accepted into the London Internship Program will be given instructions on how to apply for a visa.

Prospective students can find more information on student visas for study in the UK, and how to apply, at:

www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/

However, please note that accepted students should not start the UK visa application process until they have received specific instructions from Boston University International Programs, as visa requirements tend to change rather frequently and even minor mistakes on an application could result in a denied visa.

Students participating in an internship program in London MUST have the appropriate visa in hand, prior to entering the United Kingdom. On-site Boston University staff members will be checking students’ passports upon arrival to confirm that all students have obtained the proper visa. Any student who is not in possession of the designated visa will be required to return to the US and will not be able to participate in the program.
