Financial Documents Required
International students and their families or sponsors must assume
all responsibility for student expenses. Therefore, it is extremely
important that all applicants review their expenses before deciding
whether or not to apply to Boston University. Payment of tuition,
fees, health insurance, and room and board (for all students
living in University residences) is required at the beginning
of each semester. Applicants should be familiar with the regulations
of their governments concerning sending money to the United
States and make arrangements to have the necessary funds available
at the designated times.
In order to complete the application form and receive the necessary
papers for obtaining a visa, the applicant must demonstrate
to Boston University that he or she has sufficient funds available
to pay for tuition and living expenses at the University. All
applicants are required to submit documentation that confirms
funding is available for the annual costs of study. All documented
sources of support must be original documents and: indicated in U.S. dollars; addressed to Boston
University and not another college or university; current (within
12 months of starting date at Boston University); and written
in English.
To assist applicants in obtaining the required financial documentation,
we ask them to complete the form "Confidential
Statement for Financing Studies at Boston University".
The applicant should keep copies of all documents sent to the University, since this information will be needed when applying to the U.S. Consulate for a student visa.
Remember that even if an applicant is admissible to Boston University academically, we cannot send an I-20 Certificate of Eligibility unless we receive all official financial documentation.
