Part-time employment is another major type of
student financial aid. The Student
Employment Office administers the Federal Work-Study Program,
a financial aid program funded by the federal government and
administered by Boston University. Eligibility for Federal Work-Study
is based on calculated financial need as determined by the Office
of Financial Assistance. The program is designed to promote
access to employment opportunities for eligible students and
to assist students in meeting their educational expenses.
Work-Study students are employed either on campus, throughout
the University, or off campus at non-profit, incorporated organizations.
The Federal Work-Study Program and Boston University encourage
Work-Study recipients to participate in community service positions
both on and off campus. Community service includes but is not
limited to: health care, child care, literacy programs, public
recreational development, neighborhood improvements, and support
services to the disabled and elderly. Please see the Work-Study
Student Handbook for more information.
The Student Employment Office will also assist all students interested in finding employment outside the Federal Work-Study Program. The office maintains listings of part-time jobs available on campus and throughout the Boston area.
