  Merit Scholarships  
  Several Boston University scholarships require no special application process beyond the submission of an application for undergraduate admission. The Board of Admissions chooses recipients for these scholarships based on academic achievement, leadership, special talents, and other personal accomplishments.

Please note that the profile information for each scholarship program reflects that of prior scholarship recipients. This does not constitute a statement of eligibility and cannot be used to predict who will be selected this year.


University Scholarship
University Scholarships are awarded by the Board of Admissions to selected students with exceptional academic records. This four-year, half-tuition, renewable scholarship reflects Boston University's commitment to excellence in academic achievement.

Average rank in class: top 5 percent
Average SAT score: 2127
Average ACT score: 32


Engineering Scholars
Engineering Scholarships are awarded by the Board of Admissions to selected students applying to the College of Engineering with exceptional academic records. This four-year, half-tuition, renewable scholarship reflects Boston University's commitment to excellence in academic achievement.

Average rank in class: top 4 percent
Average SAT score: 2112
Average ACT score: 31


Boston High School Scholarship
As many as 58 four-year, full-tuition scholarships are awarded annually to selected Boston residents graduating from Boston Public Schools. Students with high academic merit and leadership ability must be nominated by their schools' guidance counselors for the scholarships.

Cardinal Medeiros Scholarship
This is a four-year, full-tuition award available to selected graduating seniors from parochial high schools in the Archdiocese of Boston. Recipients must be nominated by their schools and chosen for their academic achievement, leadership ability, and community service.

Average rank in class: top 3 percent
Average SAT score: 2091
Average ACT score: 29


National Scholars Award
This half-tuition scholarship is awarded to selected high school seniors who have also been chosen as National Merit or National Achievement Program finalists and who have exceptionally strong academic records. To be eligible for consideration, National Merit finalists must designate Boston University as their first-choice college with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation no later than March 1. National Achievement finalists must send a copy of their Finalist letter to the following address by March 1: John McEachern, Scholarship Coordinator, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02215. Recipients are chosen by the Boston University Board of Admissions and by the Scholarship Committee.

National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP)
This half-tuition scholarship is awarded to selected National Hispanic Recognition Program finalists who have exceptionally strong academic records. To be eligible for consideration, NHRP Scholar Finalists must send their Finalist letters to the following address: John McEachern, Scholarship Coordinator, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, 6th Floor, Boston, MA 02215. Recipients are chosen by the Boston University Board of Admissions and by the Scholarship Committee.

Deans' Scholarship
These $10,000 renewable tuition scholarships are offered to selected academically talented students. While recipients have little or no calculated financial need, they have expected family contributions that do not substantially exceed the cost of attendance. To be considered, students must file the PROFILE and FAFSA by February 15.

Founders' Grant
Students with strong high school records who have applied for financial aid but demonstrate minimal calculated need may qualify for this renewable $5,000-a-year tuition grant. To be considered, students must file the PROFILE and FAFSA by February 15.

Average rank in class: top 15 percent
Average SAT score: 1888
Average ACT score: 28

To be considered for a Dean's Scholarship or Founder's Grant, students must file the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15. Please contact the Office of Financial Assistance at 617-353-2965 for more information.


Methodist Clergy Scholarship
This half-tuition renewable scholarship is available to the sons and daughters of active, ordained Methodist ministers. To be considered, students must submit a letter from their resident Bishop indicating their church of affiliation to the following address: Meredith Barnhart, Office of Financial Assistance, 881 Commonwealth Avenue, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02215.


Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Boston University awards a half-tuition grant to selected transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. Students competitive for this award are outstanding leaders who have demonstrated academic excellence. Recipients must enroll as juniors at Boston University with a minimum of 60 transferable credits. Students also must have been nominated by their Phi Theta Kappa chapter advisor. Please note: this is only a two-year award.
