Stellar Lacrosse Season Ends at NCAA Quarterfinals

The Terrier women’s lacrosse team went into the NCAA quarterfinals with a nation-best fifteen-game winning streak, a school record for victories, and a fourth straight America East championship. But the season came to an end on May 17, when the team lost 8-5 to top-ranked Penn in Philadelphia, despite an impressive 13-save performance from goalkeeper Rachel Klein (CAS’10).
With the loss, seventh-seeded Boston University had its program-record winning streak snapped. The Terriers finished the year with an 18-3 record, matching the BU record for victories set in 2005.
“I think they showed a lot of heart throughout the season and proved that if you are willing to put in the time and effort toward achieving a goal, it can be done regardless of how experienced, or inexperienced, a team is,” says head coach Elizabeth Robertshaw.
The conclusion of the season marks the end of the standout careers of Lauren Morton (CAS’08) and Molly Collins (CAS’08). “We would not have had the season we did without them,” says Robertshaw. “The big wins over Stanford, Yale, Dartmouth, and UNH three times, in addition to compiling a season record of 18-3 with a trip to the NCAA quarterfinals, are a testament to how hard they worked during their tenure here and where they want this program to go.”
The team started the season in February with high expectations from the preseason coaches poll and from the magazines Lacrosse and Inside Lacrosse. The Terriers were ranked seventeenth in Lacrosse’s preseason poll, and Sarah Dalton (CGS’07, CAS’09), who led the Terriers with fifty-two goals last year, was named one of Inside Lacrosse’s top twenty players in NCAA Division I lacrosse.
