Awards for School 2009-2010

Boston University has always been a leader in women’s higher education. In 1869, when the University received its charter, it became the first U.S. University to be open without reservation to women. The Women Graduates’ Club, established in 1912, is the oldest alumni organization at Boston University. The Club’s objectives have been “to promote the interests of Boston University, to strengthen women’s educational opportunities, to further all causes that make for women’s welfare and progress,” and to award scholarships to deserving women students.

The Women Graduates’ Club scholarship in the names of Lucy Jenkins Franklin, Ruth Baker, and Elsbeth Melville has been awarded to graduate and undergraduate women for 90 years. Last year, the WGC awarded 14 scholarships totaling over $40,000.

If you are interested in applying for the next academic year for the Women Graduates’ Club Scholarship, you must be a woman enrolled at Boston University full-time and a U.S. citizen. Application forms are available online. However, all completed applications must be submitted to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, Attn: Womens Graduate Scholarship at One Sherborn Street, seventh floor by 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009. NOTE: PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THE APPLICATION

If you would like to make a donation to the scholarship fund, please send a check made payable to Trustees of Boston University with memo line: Women Graduates’ Club Scholarship and send to Boston University Gifts and Records, One Sherborn Street, seventh floor, Boston, MA 02215. If you have any questions, please contact Kate Peruzzini at 617/353-9511 or alumni@bu.edu.

Thank you.
