Professor of Economics and Associate Dean for Faculty

The Associate Dean for Faculty directs the Faculty Actions Office, reviews all staffing and compensation matters for faculty and research appointees, develops faculty staffing and compensation policies and procedures within the College, and works with the Central Administration, the General Counsel’s office, and ISSO on both policy development and specific faculty actions. The Associate Dean for Faculty, along with the Dean and other Associate Deans, also serves as an advocate for faculty and participates in various activities to improve the quality of faculty. Appointments, Promotions, Leaves,
and Retirements

  • Coordinate the review and approval of searches
  • Interview and evaluate faculty candidates
  • Assist in faculty hiring negotiations
  • Conduct appointment and re-appointment reviews for all faculty, faculty administrators, and research scholars
  • Manage the promotion and tenure review process and assist ex officio in APT committee deliberations
  • Review leave and sabbatical requests
  • Advise faculty on leave and retirement options
  • Coordinate Summer Term appointments

Compensation

  • Participate in merit and equity salary reviews
  • Develop compensation policies for faculty and researchers

Faculty Development and Advocacy

  • Evaluate mid-tenure reviews and identify mentoring needs
  • Meet with department chairs and faculty to discuss tenure and promotion process
  • Work with faculty to address problems and complaints

Quality Improvement

  • Organize training for administrative staff
  • Coordinate course evaluation procedures with departments
  • Work with the Dean and other Associate Deans to improve grading practices and teaching performance
  • Work with the Dean and other Associate Deans on issues of faculty misconduct, including sexual harassment
