Medical Insurance
All CELOP students are required under Massachusetts state law to have adequate medical insurance. Because most international students do not have insurance coverage that is adequate to meet the University's requirements, you will be automatically enrolled in Boston University's medical insurance plan, and the charges for this insurance will be added to your bill. Medical Insurance rates are listed on the Dates & Fees page of this website.
If you do not wish to participate in Boston University's student medical Insurance plan, you may file for a
waiver of the student medical insurance plan. To waive your BU medical insurance you must enroll in an
insurance comparable with Boston University that provides you with reasonably comprehensive coverage
of health services, including primary care, emergency services, hospitalization benefits, and mental health
services, at a range and level at least comparable to the Boston University student medical insurance plan.
Also, the services covered under your health plan must be accessible in the Boston area. A plan that
requires you to pay all your medical expenses up front and then be reimbursed is not acceptable. If you
are filing a medical insurance waiver, you must state your insurance coverage (in English), sign the form,
and return the completed form, prior to the deadline date, to:

If you do not submit the waiver form before the deadline date you will be enrolled in the insurance plan and will be responsible for payment. Only a small number of international insurance plans will be accepted by Boston University. If your waiver application is rejected, you will be responsible for full payment of the Boston University insurance.
