Prescreening

Boston University College of Fine Arts Certain majors, degrees and diploma programs are prescreened; that is, applicants are required to submit preliminary materials with their applications. These materials are reviewed (screened) by Boston University School of Music faculty members. Following faculty review, a limited number of applicants are invited to audition. Applicants not invited to audition based on prescreening will be notified that they have not been accepted for degree study.

Graduate applicants are prescreened as follows

Conducting applicants (MM or DMA in choral or orchestra conducting) must submit a preliminary videotape (due December 15, 2008) .

Opera Institute applicants must submit a preliminary self-prepared audio recording (due January 15, 2009). The recording should include five arias (one of which must be in English) of contrasting stlyes, displaying the applicant’s mastery of various languages, musical periods, and styles. In addition to an application, candidates must submit:

  • Graduate application
  • Resume
  • Bio
  • Headshot
  • Two letters of recommendation

The Opera Institute will conduct final auditions in Boston in February
