Mr. Tyler Sit
marsh associate for lgbtq community | ministry assistant for communications | design and layout editor, motives magazine
Tyler Sit is an undergraduate in Boston University's College of Communication. His recently-declared major is in Communications Studies with a double minor in Psychology and Spanish. Called by God and supported by his family, Tyler has begun the ordination process in the United Methodist Church in his home state, Minnesota. His position at Marsh is dynamic and varied, with responsibilities ranging from archival management to graphic design to advising students. Whatever his actual occupation may be, it is with tremendous gratitude that Tyler enjoys the opportunities that Boston University offers him.
Tyler is fascinated with world religion, motivated by social justice, and enticed by grassroot activism. Last year he and the other Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholars planned BU's first Human Rights Week, a now-annual event hosted by the Howard Thurman Center. He is also an active member of the Servant Team, the Marsh Chapel undergraduate leadership group guided by the prodigious leadership of Mallory Rice and Sean McQuarrie. A limited list of the Servant Team's plenteous activities last year include: a Haunted Chapel, the CROP Walk, study parties, a Charles River clean-up and a Guitar Hero/Human Rights event.
Tyler is wholeheartedly concerned with the equality of all creation and sees fit to talk about it whenever he can. Last year, Liz Douglass and Tyler began the LGBTQ Ministry. Attempting to reconstruct the long-demolished bridge between the church and the LGBTQ demographic, the two began to assemble a community of faithful undergraduates in hopes of a more unified tomorrow. Before that unified tomorrow arrives, however, Tyler and Liz will just have to settle for planning fun and awesome events for their ministry.
Lastly, Tyler is also a proud member of the most soulful singing group in the greater-Boston area, BU's Inner Strength Gospel Choir. While his upbringing in the suburbia of the Midwest didn't necessarily prepare him for such an activity, he is grateful that ISGC has welcomed him with open arms, and has vowed to pass on such hospitality to any newcomer to Marsh Chapel.
If you are interested in participating in any of the above-mentioned activities, please feel free to contact Tyler in whatever manner you feel comfortable, except facebook, because Tyler doesn't have a profile.
