Professor Starr is the author of BLOOD: An Epic History of Medicine and Commerce, which won the 1998 Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was named to the "Best Books of 1998" lists of Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and Library Journal. A veteran science, medical, and environmental reporter, he has contributed to many national publications, including Smithsonian, Audubon, National Wildlife, Sports Illustrated, the Los Angeles Times, the Christian Science Monitor, and Time. He has served as a science editor for PBS-TV and is currently working on a Public Television documentary based on his book.
