Dr. Oppliger teaches mass communication theory and research methods. She is particularly interested in persuasion theories and mass media effects theories.
Dr. Oppliger's research focuses on the influence of the media and popular culture on adolescents? development using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods. She has published two books: Wrestling and Hypermasculinity (McFarland, 2004) and Girls Gone Skank: The Sexualization of Girls in American Culture (McFarland, 2008). She has also published articles and book chapters on humor and is an active member of The International Society for Humor Studies.
