• Providing information about self-help methodologies developed by people who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness
• Promoting alternatives to the medical model, especially those developed and administered by consumers/survivors
• Promoting the legal and civil rights of people labeled mentally ill
• Developing dialogue among segments of the mental health and rehabilitation communities that often don't communicate: consumers/survivors, professionals, family members, direct care workers
