Description Functional assessment is different from traditional diagnosis in that skills are evaluated rather than pathological symptoms or personality. Functional assessment evaluates individuals' spontaneous use, prompted use, and performance of critical skills in relation to their needed use in a particular environment. This technology teaches practitioners how to help define and evaluate the skills needed for consumers to be successful and satisfied in particular residential, educational, vocational, or social environments. Practitioners learn how to list critical skills, describe skill use, evaluate skill functioning, and coach individuals through the assessment process. Training Package Contents

Mikal Cohen, PhD, was associate executive director at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation and research associate professor of rehabilitation counseling at Boston University. Dr. Cohen developed psychiatric rehabilitation and case management training technology and wrote numerous journal articles, books, book chapters, and monographs.
Marianne Farkas, ScD, is co-principal investigator of the Research and Training Center and director of the World Health Organization's Collaborating Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation. Dr. Farkas has authored or co-authored more than 35 journal articles, 3 textbooks, 11 book chapters, and 6 multimedia training packages. She has received numerous awards for her contributions to the field, including the John Beard Award from the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (formerly IAPSRS).
Barry Cohen, PhD, is the executive vice president for strategic services and partners at PTC. Dr. Cohen is responsible for PTC’s global human resources, customer care, technical support, enterprise consulting partners, global services consulting and operations, Product First™ practice and education services. Dr. Cohen joined PTC in January 1998 when PTC acquired Computervision. Prior to the acquisition, he served with Computervision for four years as senior vice president for human development and organizational productivity. Before joining Computervision, Dr. Cohen was the president of Possibilities Inc., an executive consulting firm specializing in organizational change and executive coaching, where he served for thirteen years. Dr. Cohen has authored or co-authored several books on leadership and organizational change, including The Wellness Sourcebook, Ethical Leadership, Leadership Myths and Realities, and The Possibilities Economy: New Capital Development. He has also published many professional articles and a series of training manuals.  |
