

The Multicultural Advancement Partnership Program (MAPP) works with immigrants, refugees, international students, and other foreign residents to assit them in their understanding of the English language and enhance their expereience in America.
Volunteers act as mentors, teachers, firneds and guides to students during their integration into American society. Each volunteer is partnered with one or several students, which vary in age from college students to elders. Special emphasis is placed on literacy, conversation, and English as a second language (ESL) classes.

What does a Mapp volunteer do? |
 |
Volunteers car participate in many activities including:- leading a conversation group
- acting as a classroom aide
- serving as a mentor
- providing one-on-one tutoring
- organizing and leading outings around Boston
One of the best aspects about volunteering for MAPP (in addition to feeling great about making a difference in the Boston community) is that the program caters to each volunteer's individual schedule, which makes volunteering easy and flexible. |

What is the time commitment? |
 |
the time commitment for MAPP is approximately 1-2 hours a week and as mentioned before, it caters with individual volunteer's schedules. |

Do i need to know how to speak another language other than English to volunteer? |
 |
No. Students participating in MAPP want to learn English and become familiar with American society so English is the only language MAPP volunteers need to speak! |

Does MAPP partner with organizations in the Boston area? |
 |
MAPP is involved with a number of community groups in the Boston area that offer a diverse array of volunteer opportunities. Some of our partners include:- The Assian American Civic Association
This multi-service civic service center works with students to provide them with employment, housing, youth mentoring, and referral information. Wolunteers tutor as well as work with classes. - Cambridge Community Learning Center
The Center helps promote English as a Second Language (ESL) in the greater Boston area. Volunteers tutor international students in ESL, math, basic reading, and writing. - Center for English Language and Orientation Programs (CELOP)
CELOP is an organization with the BU community. The programs teach English to individuals of varying ages and try to acquaint them with living in America through different activities in Boston. Volunteers lead conversation circles based on television shows, books, short stories, and movies. - Jewish Vocational Services
JVS is a nonprofit organization that provides English and work skills education for immigrants and refugees in the Boston area. Volunteers work with students either at the site or one-on-one at specific meeting places. Volunteers tutor, acts as aides in literacy/ESL classes, teach computer skills, and work in the resource library. - Olin Center
The Olin Center is an agency that provides English classes. Volunteers work with students from all differnt parts of the world in informal conversation circles.
