Exit Counseling

Exit Counseling is a federal requirement for all Federal Direct Stafford Loan recipients and Federal Perkins Loan recipients, and it is a state requirement for all Massachusetts No Interest Loan recipients.  Exit counseling requirements were created to ensure that you understand your rights and responsibilities as a borrower. During the counseling, you will learn how to make payment of your loans easier and how to get help and protect your credit rating if you have problems.

Important note: Until you complete your Exit Counseling, your Boston University diploma will be withheld.

Students who also borrowed Perkins Loan Funds will receive instructions about the Perkins exit requirement by mail. Please contact the Student Loan Department with additional questions.

DIRECT STAFFORD BORROWERS
You can complete your Stafford Exit Counseling online through the Direct Stafford Loan Servicer. If you have not already done so, you will first need to obtain a PIN number and establish an account at the Department of Education PIN Registration website.

PERKINS LOAN BORROWERS
You will receive instructions about the Perkins exit requirement by mail. Please contact the Student Loan Department with additional questions.

MASSACHUSETTS NO INTEREST LOAN (NIL) BORROWERS
You can complete your Massachusetts No Interest Loan Exit Counseling online at the Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance.
