Supplemental Death Benefit Plan:
How the plan works
Events that affect participation

If you are classified by the University as a regular employee, work a full-time schedule, and have an appointment of nine months' or more duration, you automatically become a member of the Supplemental Death Benefit Plan on the day that you complete five years of continuous full-time service. The Supplemental Death Benefit Plan will automatically provide your beneficiaries with a lump sum payment equal to one month’s base salary in the event of your death.

If you are not actively at work performing your normal duties on the day you would normally become eligible, you will not become a member of the plan until the day you return to active work.
