If you would like to apply for a position at Boston University, please visit our job posting by following the link in the left navigation bar and determine which positions are of interest to you. The following information may be helpful to you in deciding which grade level and employment category might best suit your career goals. Please note that the Boston University Job Opportunities Bulletin is updated every Tuesday.

Description of Salary Grades

Grades 22 – 26
These are hourly paid clerical or technical support staff positions. The majority of these positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Grades 41 – 43
These are monthly paid professional librarian positions that require a Master in Library Science. These positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Grades 51 – 58
These are monthly paid information systems and technology positions and require a certain level of computer/technical expertise. When considering these positions, be sure to review the specific computer requirements as outlined in the job posting.

Grades 71 – 82
These are monthly paid administrative and professional positions When considering these positions, be sure to review the requirements as outlined in the job posting.

How to Apply

Grades 22 through 26
Applicants can complete an online application by clicking on the "Submit Resume" button listed with the specific position for which they are interested. (Current Boston University employees applying for promotion or transfer should use the instructions in the next section.) Although we encourage applicants to apply online, applicants may submit a paper application form which can be obtained at the Office of Human Resources, 25 Buick Street in Boston or in the Forms/Print Library at this site. We recommend that you attach a current resume to your application, however, you are not required to do so. If there is any interest in your application, you will be contacted by an employment specialist in the Office of Human Resources.

Promotion or Transfer
If you are a current Boston University employee applying for grade 22 through grade 26 positions, you must submit a Boston University Application for Clerical or Technical Promotion or Transfer form. You may complete this form by going directly to the job listing for which you are interested and click "Current Boston University Employees click here to apply for this position." (Do not use the "Submit Resume" button.) Once you complete the online application, it will be sent directly to the Office of Human Resources for review. If you do not wish to submit your application electronically, you may obtain a Boston University Application for Clerical or Technical Promotion or Transfer form from the Office of Human Resources at the address below, or you can print a copy of the form from the Forms/Print Library. Once you complete your Promotion and Transfer application, please return it to the Office of Human Resources where it will be reviewed by an employment specialist.

We recommend that you attach a current resume to your application (or cut and paste it into your electronic application), however, you are not required to do so. If you meet the minimum qualifications, including the necessary typing skills, your application will be forwarded to the hiring department for consideration. An employment specialist from the Office of Human Resources will contact you to schedule an interview with the hiring department.

Exempt Grades 40+, 50+ and 70+
All applicants (including both current Boston University employees and external candidates) should complete an online application by clicking on the "Submit Resume" button listed with the specific position for which you are interested. Please include a cover letter with the application. Although we encourage applicants to apply online, you may forward a paper resume and cover letter to the Office of Human Resources at 25 Buick Street, Boston, MA 02215. If you send a paper cover letter and resume, please include the position number (also referred to as the tracking number) on your letter for the position in which you are interested. If you are applying for more than one job, please send a separate resume and cover letter for each position. Whether you apply electronically or by paper, your resume will be reviewed by the Office of Human Resources and forwarded to the hiring department. If there is further interest in your candidacy, you will be contacted directly to make interviewing arrangements.

Boston University Police Officer Positions
If you are interested in applying for a position as a Boston University Police Officer, you must submit an application form which may be obtained at the Office of Human Resources at 25 Buick Street in Boston or in the Forms/Print Library at this site. We recommend that you attach a current resume to your application, but you are not required to do so. All applications for the position of Police Officer are forwarded to the Boston University Police Department where they are held until the next Boston University Police Officer written exam is scheduled. If your written exam score qualifies you for further consideration, you will be scheduled to attend the Boston University Police Officer oral exam. Please note that prior to any offer of employment as a Boston University Police Officer, a complete medical examination will be administered.

Physical Plant--Custodial and Trades Positions
If you are interested in applying for a custodial or trades position within the Physical Plant, you must submit an application form which may be obtained in the Office of Human Resources at 25 Buick Street in Boston or downloaded from the Forms/Print Library at this site. If there is any interest in your application, you will be contacted by Boston University and an interview will be scheduled with the hiring department. Please note that prior to an offer of employment as a Custodian or Trades Worker, a complete medical examination will be administered.
