New Employee Requirements

The Office of Human Resources conducts Employee Orientation meetings to provide new employees with information on the University's history, facilities, programs, benefit plans, and personnel policies and procedures. All new employees are required to attend the Office of Human Resources orientation within 30 days of employment and will be scheduled upon hire. Employee orientation meetings are conducted every Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at the BU Experience located at 602 Commonwealth Avenue
(Lower level of Morse Auditorium; entrance on Blandford Street). New employees will be notified of the date for which they are scheduled via the University's employment offer letter.

All new employees are also required to:

  • obtain an employee photo identification card
  • complete an I-9 form in accordance with the Immigration and Control Act (IRCA) within three working days of the first day of work. (This form is completed within the new employee's department.)
  • submit to the Payroll Office a completed Form W-4, Employee's Witholding Allowance Certificate.

Some positions also require:

  • satisfactory completion of a physical examination. Employees for whom this applies will be informed of such during the interview process. Additional information will also be provided to the new employee by their department coordinator.
  • setup of an Academic Computing System (ACS) account and Kerberos password. Though this may not be required, we strongly recommend that all new employees set up an account. Access to many University web pages are secure and require authentication with a Kerberos password. For more information about ACS accounts, follow this link to Information Technology and speak with your manager or departmental systems representative.
