Teaching and research on multimedia communication. Building program
of studies and research projects concerning multimedia communication
design, interactive interface, online education, and computer-related
tools.
Education Technology Consultant, Apple Computer, 1988-1994.
Responsible for communicating Apple's education work in the northeast
region of the U.S., including extensive public speaking, seminars on
technology applications, authoring articles and books, and assisting
software developers. Special interests in multimedia project development
and long-range technology planning.
Deputy Commissioner of Education, State of Vermont, 1985-1988.
General responsibility for statewide educational leadership, management,
and
policy development for the Vermont State Department of Education. Appointed
by the State Board of Education. Supervised 163 employees in four divisions
with an annual budget of $203 million. Designed and promoted educational
policy with the Board, State Legislature, educators, and the public.
Administered legal, financial, and personnel functions of the agency.
Contributed to raising the State's commitment to public education by
50% over two years.

Work includes curriculum planning, software design, textbook writing,

Managed a 35-person division of the State Department of Education responsible
for curriculum, school approval, teacher certification, and consulting
services to school districts. Designed and implemented a comprehensive
set of rigorous standards and procedures for the approval of public
schools, and initiated the Vermont Early Education Project.
Director of Federal Education Programs, State of Vermont , 1981-1982.
Managed the 26-person division of the State Department of Education
that
handled federal education funds and programs, including Compensatory
Education(Chapter 1), School Improvement (Chapter 2), and several other
programs. Shifted from categorical to block-grant funding, computerized
fiscal
distribution formulae, helped reorganize the Department staff.
Chief of Elementary Curriculum, State of Vermont, 1980-81.
Responsible for the approval of elementary schools and curriculum improvement.
Supervised a staff of four, implemented the statewide Basic Competencies
program, worked with local education leaders.
Social Studies Curriculum Consultant, State of Vermont, 1975-1980.
Responsible for statewide curriculum improvement in grades K-12 in history,
geography, government and the social sciences. Initiated projects in
economics, law, and reasoning.
