Human Rights: Institutions and Authority (S) K. Young

This seminar was previously listed as Rights and Regulation. The description has been revised as follows:
This seminar explores the complex operation of human rights in both domestic and international law. We'll begin by focusing on national courts, namely the permeation of international and foreign law in the judicial interpretations of constitutional rights in the United States, as well as in other constitutional systems, including Canada, Germany, South Africa and India. The case studies will include free speech and equality. The second half of the course will examine the institutions of the international human rights regime. The case studies will include transnational regulatory structures to address global health and environmental conservation. The seminar is designed for students with a variety of interests, including human rights, international and comparative law, and constitutional law.
