Visiting Students

Students at other ABA accredited law schools who wish to spend a semester or a year at the School of Law may apply for Visiting Student status.  Visiting privileges are most often granted to students wishing to be at Boston University during one or two semesters of their third year. Students wishing to spend part or all of their second year at BU Law must present especially compelling reasons. Non-matriculating students may not transfer to degree status.

The deadline for entering in Fall 2008 is June 15.
The deadline for entering in Spring 2009 is November 1.

Notification of Acceptance
(for students applying for the Fall semester or for the academic year)

Those students who are currently in their second year of law school will receive a conditional offer of acceptance in mid-June, subject to grades for the semester just completed remaining satisfactory. Such students will receive confirmation of their acceptance once their final transcript for the semester of work just completed is received. We typically receive these transcripts around the middle of July.

Those students who are currently in their first year of law school will be notified of their acceptance in mid-July -- earlier if their transcripts for the first year of legal studies are received

Tuition and Registration

Tuition and required fees at the Boston University School of Law have been set at $38,266 for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Please note that Boston University School of Law cannot award financial aid to Visting Students.

Status of Visiting Students when Registering for Courses

Registration preference is given to students who are matriculated (non-visiting) at BU Law. However, especially, if you are here for the year rather than one semester, you should be able to design a program that is satisfactory to you.
