Loans * Renewals * Recalls * Overdues * Notices * Privacy

Law faculty may borrow items in the law treatise collections (primarily books in the Pappas state collection and Annex lower-level stacks) for an initial loan period of one year.

Law faculty may borrow general circulation materials from other B.U. libraries for an initial loan period of 3 months.

Law Reserve materials and Law materials marked Limited Circulation, Library Use Only, or Non-Circulating may be borrowed by law faculty for a two week period. These include journals, looseleaf services, reference materials, and primary sources.

Non-circulating and reserve materials from other B.U. libraries can generally be obtained for 24 hour use by faculty.

Renewals - Law Library

Two renewals for additional one year or two week periods may be obtained: by contacting the Faculty LIaison, by e-mailing lawcirc@bu.edu, by phoning the library at ((617) 353-3151 or (617) 353-2848), or through the use of My Account on the library catalog.

To renew material beyond three years or six weeks (initial loan + 2 renewals): return the material to the Pappas circulation desk to be checked in and then checked out again to your record.

Renewals - Other B.U. Libraries

Law faculty may forward overdue notices received from other B.U. Libraries to the Faculty Liaison, lawcirc@bu.edu, and request renewals. The Faculty Liaison will request a brief return of materials which have been borrowed for more than 9 months (initial loan + 2 renewals) in order to check the material in and then check it out again to your record.

Holds and Recalls

All patrons are guaranteed a two week loan period of materials from the library's collections. After the two week period, materials may be recalled for the use of another patron. If material you need is listed in the catalog as: Due ..., e-mail the circulation department (lawcirc@bu.edu) to recall the material. Library staff will contact the current borrower to obtain the material for you. The material will be delivered to your mailbox when it is available.

If you receive a recall notice and you need the material beyond the new due date, please contact the Faculty LIaison to make arrangements for continued use.

Please note: Recall notices received from other BU libraries will include fines for late returns.

Overdues

Law faculty who have overdue non-law materials will receive notices from the lending library. Library staff may only renew non-law materials through your request. Please respond to these notices so that library staff can keep your circulation record clear of blocks. Materials which are overdue by six weeks result in an automatic block being placed on your record. The law library does not fine law faculty for overdue law materials.

Please note: Notices received from other libraries will include fines for late returns.

Notices & Statements

Notices for recalled law materials are sent by the Faculty Liaison using email.

Overdue notices and recalls from other BU libraries are sent to your BU email address. To have the other BU libraries send e-mail notifications to a different email address please contact Jessica Richardi.

Statements of all materials currently checked out are emailed to each faculty member twice a year. A printed copy of your current circulation record may be obtained at any time by contacting Jessica Richardi, lawcirc@bu.edu x-8879.

Privacy

The library does not maintain records of materials you have returned. Once materials are returned all records are cleared from the system. For materials you currently have checked out on the library's online circulation system, only you and library staff have access to the record. An exception is made for law faculty to law faculty inquiries. If a law faculty member has material you have requested, full-time staff are authorized to give you this professor's name.
