Library Services for B.U. Alumni

The B.U. Libraries encourage graduates of the University to make use of our rich resources and collections. With more than 2 million books, journals, electronic and other non-print sources,  the B.U. Libraries are ranked 70th of more than 3000 libraries in North America and we are the second largest academic library in the Boston area, after Harvard University. When you are in town, please consider visiting one of the almost dozen libraries at Boston University.

If you have an alumni card, you can borrow books for the customary 4 week loan period.   To apply for a card, please fill out this form.

During your campus visit, you can also:

  • Access the B.U. libraries' subscription databases, electronic journals and indexes.  Many of our electronic resources contain full-text articles.
  • Use the listening facilities at our Music Library.
  • Request personal research assistance from our professional library staff.  You may also request help by email,
or by the phone numbers found at the following website.
  • Visit the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center (HGARC), which has a complete collection of class yearbooks and other student memorabilia.  In addition, HGARC is a major repository for the papers of many prominent 20th century personalities.

Unfortunately, licensing agreements and inter-university consortial regulations do not permit alumni to access subscription electronic resources from off-campus locations or to request interlibrary loan materials.

The following B.U. libraries provide their own alumni pages:

Alumni Medical Library

Pappas Law Library

Pardee Management Library

Please note: the internet offers a superb website featuring free access to the full-text of more than 2,000 journals covering the humanities, social sciences and sciences.

Please make sure to check the B.U. Alumni website which contains many additional benefits and privileges for graduates.
