Changing a stored password
Follow the instructions below for removing the password setting from your e-mail program.
Outlook Express and Outlook 2000 (Windows)
Outlook Express for the Macintosh
1. Launch Thunderbird
2. Choose from the menu Tools->Options->Privacy->Passwords and click on View Saved Passwords.
3. Remove the password that is applicable to the account.
4. Next time you use Thunderbird, you will be prompted for the password and will have an opportunity to save it again.
1. Launch Mail
2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences and click on the Accounts tab
3. On the left of the screen, click on the account whose password you recently changed, then on the right of the screen, under Account Information, remove the password.
4. Next time you use Mail, you will be prompted for the password and will have an opportunity to save it again.
1. Launch Netscape
2. Choose from the menu Tasks-Privacy & Security-Password-View Stored Passwords (version 6) or Tools->Password Manager->Manage Stored Passwords (version 7)
3. Select imap://yourusername@acs-imap.bu.edu.
4. Click on Remove and then on OK.
5. Choose File-Exit or File-Quit to close Netscape
6. Launch Netscape again and then launch the mail program. You should then be prompted to give your (new) password.
7. Select "Use Password Manager to remember this password." if you now wish to have Netscape remember this new password.
1. Launch Netscape
2. Choose from the menu Edit-Preferences-Mail Servers (located by expanding Mail & Newsgroups)
3. Make sure the name of your incoming mail server is selected (it should be already) and then click on the Edit button.
4. Click on the General tab and remove the check mark next to the "Remember password" option.
5. Click on OK and OK again to close all open preference windows.
6. Choose File-Exit or File-Quit to close Netscape.
7. Launch Netscape again and use the Communicator-Messenger command to launch the mail program. You should then be prompted to give your (new) password.
8. Once you have used your new password to retrieve mail with Netscape, you can then return to the "Remember password" preference and, if you wish to, have Netscape remember this new password instead.
Outlook Express or Outlook 2000 (Windows)
1. Launch whichever version of Outlook you are using
2. Choose from the menu Tools-Accounts
3. Make sure the name of your incoming mail server is selected (it should be already) and then click on the Properties button.
4. Click on the Servers tab and remove the check mark next to the "Remember password" option.
5. Click on Apply, OK and Close
6. Choose File-Exit to quit
7. Launch the e-mail application again and you should then be prompted to give your (new) password.
8. Once you have used your new password to retrieve mail with either Outlook Express or Outlook, you can then, if you wish to, have it remember this new password instead.
Outlook Express for the Macintosh
1. Launch Outlook Express
2. Choose from the menu Tools-Accounts
3. Make sure the name of your incoming mail server is selected and then click on the Edit button.
4. Remove the check mark next to the "Save password" option.
5. Click on OK and Close the Accounts window.
6. Choose File-Quit to quit
7. Launch Outlook Express again and you should then be prompted to give your (new) password.
8. Once you have used your new password to retrieve mail with Outlook Express, you can then, if you wish to, have it remember this new password instead.
1. Launch Outlook XP
2. Choose from the menu Tools-Email Accounts
3. Make sure the option to "View or change existing e-mail accounts" is selected and then click on Next.
4. Make sure the name of your IMAP server is selected (most likely this will be acs-imap.bu.edu) and then click on the Change button.
5. Under Logon Information remove the check mark next to the "Remember password" option.
6. Click on Next and then on Finish.
7. Choose File-Exit to quit
8. Launch the e-mail application again and you should then be prompted to give your (new) password.
9. Once you have used your new password to retrieve mail with either Outlook Express or Outlook, you can then, if you wish to, have it remember this new password instead.
1. Launch Eudora
2. Choose from the menu Tools-Options (Win) or Special-Settings (Mac)
3. Select the Checking Mail category and deselect the "Save password" option.
