wireless access for Handheld Devices
Please note that support for handheld devices is not officially provided by the PCSC. The information below is provided for your convenience, and we hope it will be helpful.
Many handheld devices come bundled with an Internet service, making use of the BU network unnecessary. For those who do hope to use the BU wireless network, 802.1x and VPN client information is outlined below . Note that information on reading e-mail with a handheld device is located on a separate page.
iPhone
Users of iPhone 2.0 software will be able to use the BU wireless network. You will be able to either use 802.1x technology (recommended) or the VPN. If you are an iPod Touch user and you need to update your software to 2.0, plug your iPod Touch into your computer and follow this link: http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/whatsnew.html
All others
802.1x
In some cases there may not be an ideal solution for connecting your handheld device to the BU wireless network. However, it is our hope that most devices will be able to use the recommended 802.1x technology.
VPN
Cisco
does not offer a VPN client for handheld devices that works with our particular implementation of their VPN software. That said, the VPN clients listed below might be an option for some people.
Both are available through a 30-day free trial download. You are welcome
to try them out, although we have no BU-specific instructions
for them and no documented experience in using them.
AnthaVPN client (30 day free download)
Bluefly VPN client (30 day free download)
