Astronomy Open Night

Astronomy Open Night

Astronomy Open Night at the Observatory is a chance for people to come observe the night sky through telescopes as well as binoculars and see things they would otherwise might not get to see, while learning some astronomy. The Open Nights are held on most Wednesday evenings throughout the year, weather permitting, at the Coit Observatory at Boston University, located right above the Astronomy Department. The stairwell to the Observatory is on the fifth floor right next to room 520.

The weather is always a factor when observing. Unfortunately we can't control the weather and we can't observe when there are clouds, haze, or rain; so when the weather is bad, the Open Night will be canceled. Predicting the weather in New England isn't easy, so we won't know if the Open Night will be held or not until the day of the program. To find out if the Open Night will be held, call our information number no earlier than two hours before the scheduled starting time. This lets us make the decision as late as possible while still giving those who live farther away time to get here. Please note that telescopes are outside so dress appropriately.

A Civil War Christmas by Paula Vogel

Huntington Theatre Company presents "A Civil War Christmas" by Paula Vogel and directed by Jessica Thebus.

It's Christmas Eve 1864. In the White House, President and Mrs. Lincoln plot their gift-giving. On the Potomac, a young rebel soldier challenges a Union blacksmith's mercy. In the streets, a fugitive from slavery searches for her daughter on the night she finds freedom. In this new play with music from Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel, these stories and more are woven into an American tapestry, showing us that the gladness of one's heart is the greatest gift of all. This production includes beloved holiday music and will be enhanced by local choirs caroling before each performance.

Tickets available online or at the Huntington Box Office. Performances through December 13, 2009.

Aventura in Concert

Aventura is one of the most unique and innovative musical groups on the scene today. After more than ten years of sparring in the music business, these four young, dynamic guys with a seldom-seen chemistry continue to auto-produce soulful, original music that gleams with excellence. They are the first "Bachata-boy band," the first band to fuse the essence of bachata with R & B, hip hop and other American pop styles; the first Bachata band to perform in English, Spanish and 'Spanglish.' They are also the first Bachata group to feature songs that address serious life situations, delighting fans in the process, such as 'Amor de madre' (Mother's Love), 'Hermanita' (Little Sister), 'Papi dijo' (Daddy Said), and 'La niña' (The Little Girl).

When these artists perform their songs, the Dominican/Caribbean culture fuses with the vivid tapestry of New York’s dynamic melting pot.

Tickets: $98.00, $88.00, $78.00, $58.00. Available through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com)

A Civil War Christmas by Paula Vogel
