INCORPORATING eZ PROXY INTO provided LINKS

Information:

The implementation of the EZproxy service may affect information provided on personal Web sites or CourseInfo/WebCT sites, particularly by faculty who provide those resources for students. If Web pages, or other documents, have links to online journal articles or other resources licensed by the libraries, those links will probably need to be modified in order to work with the new EZproxy service. Below are several methods to help faculty, or others, in modifying the links in documents and Web sites.

Method 1:

Use our on-line utility to generate a URL to that inserts .ezproxy.bu.edu in the correct place. Once you have the new URL, test it out, and paste it into your documentation.

Method 2:

Manually edit the URL to insert .ezproxy.bu.edu into the correct location (note the period before ezproxy). If you do manually edit, it is very important to test the link to insure that it works as you intend.

The required characters, shown below in bold, need to be inserted after the domain part of the URL. See examples as follows:

Method 3:

Lastly, you can modify the URLs on your Web pages by re-executing the search beginning at the library Web pages.  You would then cut and paste the modified URL into your document.  A list of Library Search Pages appears below that you can use to begin your search and a brief Web cast tutorial demonstrates this process.

Note:
Many vendors provide a durable (stable or permanent) URL that is the preferred URL to use as a link in your documents. While the “.ezproxy.bu.edu” information is automatically embedded in the address box at the top of the browser window, it is not always present in the durable URL provided by the vendor. If it is not present, you should add it manually.

Library Search Pages:

Below are the Library pages from which you can start your search. Additional examples of URLs modified to include the EZproxy information follow the list of Library Search Pages.
