FERPA

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ensures confidentiality of educational records and restricts disclosure to or access by third parties, except as authorized by law. Students have the right to inspect their educational records, with certain exceptions. To inspect their records, students need to complete a Request for Access to Educational Records form, available at their School or from the Office of the University Registrar. If a student believes his or her records are inaccurate, he or she may request an amendment and, if denied, has the right to a hearing. If the outcome of the hearing is negative, the student can place a letter of disagreement in his or her file. Under certain circumstances, in accordance with the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, non-directory information can be disclosed without the prior consent of the student.
