Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling

Boston University Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences has decided to discontinue its programs in the area of Rehabilitation Counseling. This includes the undergraduate program in Rehabilitation and Human Services and the graduate programs in Rehabilitation Counseling. The discontinuation was approved at many levels of the university and by the Board of Trustees in July, 2007.

In 2005-06 all of the colleges at Boston University undertook a strategic planning process. One of the major outcomes of this process for Sargent was the realization that the College had too many programs for the number of faculty and students. We want to make the largest impact on health and rehabilitation sciences that we can with the resources we have. Therefore, we determined that we need to narrow our focus and reallocate resources to enhance a smaller number of key programs. The decision to close the Rehabilitation Counseling programs reflects the outcome of the strategic planning process.

The programs will formally end the spring of 2008. Current students, both undergraduate and graduate, will be able to complete their degree programs but no new applications are being accepted. The Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation will continue to be affiliated with Sargent College’s Department of Occupational Therapy.
