Gail Steketee
Dean and Professor
Dr. Steketee, a member of the faculty since 1986, has been appointed the new Dean of the Boston University School of Social Work, effective June 1, 2008. She had been serving as Dean ad interim since July 1, 2005. From 1996 to 1999, she served as the School's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. Dr. Steketee has taught and conducted research on cognitive and behavioral treatments for anxiety disorders. She currently conducts NIMH-funded research on behavioral and cognitive treatment for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) with colleagues at MGH, and assessment and treatment for compulsive hoarding problems, including in elderly people, with colleagues at Smith College and Hartford Hospital. She has also published extensively in these areas, including four books on obsessions and compulsions, three (in progress) on compulsive hoarding, and numerous articles and chapters. Dr. Steketee received her MSS and PhD from Bryn Mawr.
