Strategic Plan
Long-term (5-10 year) goals and strategies
Contribution to the community
Although this section was not requested in the original document, our faculty and administrative staff believe strongly that the university as a whole will benefit greatly from the School’s strong connections to the urban communities in which we are located. SSW faculty and administrators already link SSW educational and research/scholarly activities to community practice sites. Our goal is to further strength SSW’s urban community connections. One strategy for achieving this goal is to:
- Strengthen and promote existing and new faculty research (especially cross disciplinary work) that is based in urban community agencies and organizations.
- Arrange meetings of faculty (especially those new to the Boston area) with field education administrators who are very familiar with urban field settings in which students are placed.
- Organize meetings of faculty with OSP and foundation office staff to identify researchers from other disciplines (e.g., MED, SPH, GRS Psychology, Economics, Anthropology) already working within community settings to expand the scope of this work.
- Expand research and training opportunities in local and state agencies with SW professional organizations (e.g., NASW of MA).
