About
Boston University School of Social Work offers THE LOWY-GEM PROGRAM IN AGING, a comprehensive, Master’s level, social work training program with stipends, preparing MSW students to meet the unique needs of older adults, their families and the organizations which serve them.
Did you know?
- The number of adults aged 65 and over will more than double in the next 30 years.
- Within the next 15 years, 70,000 new social workers will be needed to work with this growing population.
Lowy-GEM Program Components:
- Stipends for participating students
- Participants can be full-time or part-time, clinical or macro
- Suitable for foundation or advanced year students
- Field placement model consists of a primary placement in one of the participating field agencies and a concurrent enrichment experience in a second field agency, allowing participants to experience two agencies serving older adults and their families
- A monthly seminar on topics related to working with older adults, taught at BUSSW and out at the participating field agencies
- Ongoing professional development programs focused on gerontological social work, throughout the students’ 2-4 years at BUSSW
- The opportunity to earn the Louis Lowy Certificate in Gerontological Social Work
- Post-MSW career guidance and mentorship from participating field instructors and program alumni
