Community Volunteering

Passing on the Gift is a Heifer cornerstone. And Heifer's Community Volunteers pass on the gift by helping spread the word about Heifer’s work and sustainable solutions in their own schools, workplaces, clubs, congregations, or communities – in their own backyards, in other words.

Heifer has Regional Offices throughout the country to provide Community Volunteers with practical ideas for getting involved.

Your Regional Office will answer questions andprovide information about educational programs, training opportunities and other community outreach ideas. They can help you find speakers on issues of hunger and Heifer’s work, andeven help you become a speaker.

Learning Center Volunteering

Looking for a hands-on way to experience sustainable solutions to hunger and poverty? There’s no better way than to immerse yourself in the daily practices of one of Heifer's three interactiveLearning Centers. Learning Centers are hands-on campuses for learning about world hunger and poverty and Heifer's sustainable solutions towardending those.

Experience working examples of the type of sustainable agriculture Heifer supports around the world, tend an organic garden, assist in the gentle care and treatment of livestock or help facilitate educational programs.

Learning Center volunteering offers a hands-on opportunity to see theory put in to practice and connects participants with a community that is actively working to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth!

Residential Volunteers
Residential volunteers, who must be at least 18 years of age, facilitate much of the educationalprogramming that teaches and promotes sustainable solutions. Residential volunteers at each center benefit from on-site housing, stipends(minimum one-month commitment) and a strongcommunity connection with other staff.

Local Volunteers
Local volunteers from the communities near each learning center help with facilityand equipment maintenance, livestock chores, reception duties and leading education programs. Local volunteers can serve full or part-time in many roles.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)          http://www.nationalcasa.org/volunteer/index.html

CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as appointed members of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time—and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.

Are you ready to stand up for a child who needs you? Inquire today about the power you have to change a child's life.

National Park Service           http://www.nps.gov/gettinginvolved/volunteer/index.htm

Volunteering is an American tradition that has made an immeasurable contribution to communities, organizations, and individuals throughout the country. Today's volunteers are active, dynamic, creative individuals who possess the skills, desire, patience, and time to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.  Volunteers-In-Parks (VIPs) come from all over the world to help preserve and protect America's natural and cultural heritage for the enjoyment of this and future generations. Volunteers of all ages give of their time and expertise to help achieve the National Park Service mission.

Single Volunteers Boston

http://svboston.org/

SVB strives to create a fun, productive environment for Boston singles to connect. SVB is an alternative to bars and dating services for single professionals who want to meet one another while performing worthwhile services in the greater Boston community. In doing so, SVB provides singles with the opportunity to impact their community, and environment in a tangible way.

SVB offers "one time" volunteer opportunities to 10 or more volunteers at a time. These projects can be anything from answering phones during a telethon to staffing blood drives, or cleaning zoos and parks. Events last anywhere from 2-5 hours and are followed by a social event at a local restaurant or pub where volunteers can continue to get to know one another.
