Prospective Students
The Boston University School of Social Work welcomes applications for admission to its graduate programs from a wide variety of individuals. The School of Social Work has a strong commitment to diversity in its student population, faculty, and administrative staff and recognizes that diversity brings an important educational benefit to its students in the classroom. In addition, the School's commitment to fighting poverty and oppression, as well as its location in Boston-a multiracial/multicultural urban environment-promote a strong program for ALANA (African-American, Latino/a, Asian/Pacific Islander, and Native Americans and members of other under-represented groups) students. The School has an ALANA Social Work Student group, and alumni of color remain active. Visit the Alumni Recruitment Network if you would like to speak with a graduate of the School of Social Work.
You will find below general information and links to more details about our MSW and PhD programs. You can apply online to both the PhD and MSW programs at Boston University. We encourage you to submit your application early to ensure your spot in the limited spaces available each year. The Cape Cod program accepts applications for the fall semester every other year on the even years (i.e., 2006, 2008). If you would like to visit the School and the Boston University campus, or if you have any questions, please contact our Admissions Office at 617-353-3765 or via e-mail.
The primary aim of our MSW program is to educate outstanding social workers in an intellectually rigorous environment so they can integrate and apply clinical and macro practice methods in urban settings and diverse communities. The Interdisciplinary PhD Program at Boston University offers a unique education leading to a doctorate in sociology and social work. The PhD program faculty works closely with students to guide development toward independent scholarship.
