CAS AM 200 Introduction to American Studies
An introduction to the interdisciplinary field of American Studies.
Examines literature, religious history, film, and popular culture
from the post-WWII moment to the present. Pays particular attention
to cultural insiders and outsiders, and the role of outsiders in
inventing, defining, and embodying American-ness. Texts will include
Orson Welles' Touch of Evil, Louis Sachar's Holes, Heidi Ewing and
Rachel Grady's Jesus Camp, Wayne Wang's Chan is Missing, and stories
by Maxine Hong Kingston, James Baldwin, Sandra Cisneros and Sherman
Alexie. 4 cr.
