High School Honors Program

Research Internship in Science and Engineering

For over thirty years, the Research Internship Program in Science and Engineering has provided high school students with the opportunity to conduct research in a real university laboratory alongside some of the sharpest scientific minds in the country.

This six-week program allows outstanding high school students to experience the culture of the laboratory environment while also gaining technical skills and valuable insight into the scientific process. Each Research Intern works with a research mentor who guides students in the development and execution of a project in their discipline of interest.

Throughout the program, Research Interns enjoy a stimulating intellectual and social camaraderie with their peers that culminates in a scientific conference at the end of the program. Each student presents his or her research by creating a professional poster—not infrequently, Research Interns submit their work to national science fair contests such as the Siemens Westinghouse Competition and the Intel Science Talent Search.
