Summer Study Internship at Boston University Summer Term

Boston University Summer Study Internship Program

Placement Process

Internship AdmissionsInternship placements are arranged by an experienced team working with each student on an individual basis. The placement team makes a considerable effort to match each student to an appropriate placement and to monitor the student throughout the internship. Each student is guaranteed a placement. The steps in the process are as follows:

Individual Placement Meetings

Before the start of the program, you will have an individual placement meeting with a member of the internship team to discuss your priorities and placement preferences. This meeting typically takes place over the phone in the months preceding your arrival in Boston. Prior to the individual placement meeting each student fills out an internship program questionnaire and submits a resume for review. This meeting is intended as the beginning of a conversation that continues throughout your placement process.

Group Workshops

Throughout the program, the placement team will present and facilitate workshops dedicated to a variety of topics, including: goal setting, resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, and making the most of your internship.

On-site Interviews and Placement Offers

Outreach to employers on your behalf is based upon the placement team’s past experience with employers, industry expertise and knowledge of the Boston area. The placement team identifies the most relevant opportunities based on your skills, interests, and professional goals, as well as sponsor’s internship needs and work cycles. During Summer Term I, the placement team confirms interest and arranges on-site interviews with internship sponsors for all students. Your placement is always contingent upon the success of the on-site interview.

Review and Evaluation

Your internship experience will be monitored through a mid-term review and a final evaluation from your internship sponsor. The placement team provides guidance and troubleshooting to employers and students throughout the internship.

An internship in Boston will offer students many different opportunities including gaining experience in a professional setting, looking at different management styles, exploring a job industry, and defining career and academic goals.
