David Walko, the associate director of athletics development for BU’s office of planned giving, was recently honored with the athletics department’s Campus Community Recognition Award. The award salutes an individual who has been supportive of the department and whose interest and enthusiasm for athletics has had a significant role in its success.

“It’s always nice to be recognized by your peers, especially in athletics,” says Walko (CAS’68), who played varsity basketball at BU for four years. “I was deeply honored.”

Walko has worked at BU for more than 30 years and has held numerous positions in the athletics department, including director of the BU Athletics Annual Fund. He has been on the board of the Varsity Athletic Club and currently sits on the board of the Friends of BU Hockey and the Friends of BU Basketball. Recently, he helped to raise more than $75,000 to honor legendary BU hockey coach Jack Kelley, who posted a 206-80-8 record at BU from 1962 to 1972.
