New, linked from the BU home page and open to contribution from
the entire BU community, maintains both a current and historical
record of the growth of the BU Web from present day back to 1993.
1999
- The Office of Information Technology increases
its license for indexing Web pages at BU from 100,000 pages to
250,000 pages.
(1 Jul 99)
- The Office of Information Technology decommissions
the Web Kiosk that had been in the GSU for several years. Ubiqitious
access to the Internet on campus made the Kiosk concept obsolete.
Usage of the Kiosk had dropped to near zero.
(3 Jun 99)
- For the first time in its history, Boston University Webcasts live its Commencement. Over
2,000 people view the day's ceremonies.
(23 May 99)
- The TERRIERS Satellite Web launches.
The TERRIERS Satellite was assembled and is operated by BU students,
faculty and staff.
(14 Apr 99)
- The Athletics Web
launches.
(13 Apr 99)
- Launch of Favorite Poem
Project Web, the first site at BU to take extensive advantage
of streaming audio and video.
(12 Feb 99)
- people.bu.edu officially
opens to everyone. For the first time, any Boston University student,
faculty, or staff can publish on the Web.

- The BU Web home page receives 1,723,118 visits in 1997.

- WBUR is on the Web.
(3 Jan 97)

- Britannica Online is
now available to Boston University students, faculty, and staff.

- Barnes and Noble at
Boston University is on the Web.
(4 Nov 96)
- Symposia on Law
and the Internet are being held at the Boston University School
of Law.

- A redesigned home page for Boston University was put into production.

- The Office of Personnel now has job listings
available.
(2 Feb 96)
- The SCV Web server has changed location. Please update your
links to point to http://www.bu.edu/SCV.

- The SCV Pegs Web
game has been selected as one of the 12 Best of the Web by VIBE
Magazine. I have the trophy proudly displayed on my

- The White House Web
is launched. Also, you can browse an index of Federal
information sources.

- How fast is the Web growing at BU? Look at the
usage reports for www.bu.edu, SCV's Web
server. Last month we processed over 100,000 requests from over

- The Office of Alumni Relations
is on the Web with regularly updated Terrier sports scores and
information, an alumni events calendar with happenings across
the country and around the world, and the latest in alumni news.

- The Boston University
Academy is on the Web. The Academy is a high school associated
with the University and located on the Charles River campus.

- Mosaic 2.4 is now installed on SCV systems.

- Information Technology launches the official
University server at web.bu.edu. The announcement appears
on NCSA's April
1994 What's New page, under April 1. This server was announced
to the University on 10 Mar

- Boston University School
of Public Health is the first such school on the Web. The
announcement appears on NCSA's February

- Now providing PH

- The Multimedia Communications
Laboratory launches its Web. The announcement appears in NCSA's

- The newest version of xmosaic is now available for testing
on lobster
(and friends). This is a prerelease version and may not
be stable. To invoke it run "xmosaic2.0". (5 Nov 93)
- There is a new interface to PH, the on-line version of the Boston
University phone book. This service uses new features in NCSA's
HTTP1.0 server plus some experimental features added locally.
For on campus users, there is an interface to the on-line dictionary.

- Lynx, an ASCII terminal interface to the Web is now available
on Lobster.

- There is a new subway
map and aMetro
region map. Also try clicking on the SCV logo.

- SCV launches its Web server at www.bu.edu. The announcement

(16 Sep 93)
- A new version of ximview, the default xmosaic image
viewer on Lobster, is installed. This viewer fixes some bugs and
provides better support for grey scale displays.

- A lot of the files on this server were rearranged. Please report
any problems.

- www.bu.edu is now running the NCSA Version 0.4 server.

- An experimental server using the PLEXUS server from BSDI is
running on octopus.bu.edu.
