Description

Many departments publish frequently asked questions (FAQs) on their web sites. As the number and quality of FAQs grows, users will turn to them first, reducing the burden on a department's support staff.

Most FAQs on the BU Web are simply HTML pages, with a list of questions at the top that link to the answers further down the page. However, there is a better way to serve them: put the FAQs in a searchable database. Visitors will find answers more quickly and efficiently. Also, departments can standardize and maintain their FAQs more effectively. You can view a course outline and course materials online.

Benefits

After taking this class, you will understand:

  1. how to properly prepare your FAQs for storing in a database.
  2. how to create the searchable database of your FAQs via a web form.
  3. how to customize the FAQ Search page and Results page with the look of your web site.
  4. how to edit and maintain your FAQs via a web form.
  5. how to tie in the Question/Comment form on your web site directly to your FAQ database.

Prerequisites

Forms: Introduction and Dreamweaver: Managing a Site (or equivalent knowledge). Access to a site on www.bu.edu is recommended.
